Shamash is one of the UK’s most well-known professional mindfulness teachers. He is mindfulness trainer, consultant, speaker and coach. He is an international bestselling author of ‘Mindfulness For Dummies’ and ‘The Mindful Way through Stress’. Shamash has been featured in numerous newspapers, magazines and radio shows all over the world. Based in London, he runs workshops and trainings in the UK, but often teaches on the phone or via Skype, coaching people to live in the present moment in a calm and focused way, leading to greater health and wellbeing, as has been proven scientifically many times.
I first came to mindfulness and self-development at an early age. I grew up surrounded by tapes and books on personal development and mindfulness used by my parents – I learnt the importance of mindful awareness and of managing my thoughts to lead a more successful and happy life.
When I attended Imperial College in London to study Chemical Engineering, I first began to suffer from stress and began looking for something to offer greater meaning and purpose in my life. I came across a course in Eastern Philosophy where I was re-introduced to mindfulness exercises. The first 5 minutes of practice was a moment of awakening for me – here was a simple technique that could actually change my state of mind! Suddenly, I had discovered a totally different way of living, of connecting with my senses in the present moment rather than just connecting with my thoughts. The power of awareness, of living in the moment began to dawn in me. I read books like ‘The Power of Now’, ‘Awareness’ and ‘I am That’, followed by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s books. I threw myself into the practices and after further experience began teaching mindfulness to adults, over ten years ago.
I completed secondary school teacher training and then did a Masters degree in Education. I began teaching science in a secondary school where all the students practised 10 minutes of meditation at the beginning and end of the day.
I continued to explore mindfulness and my scientific side became fascinated by research into meditation. After further mindfulness training in the UK and USA, and more teaching of mindfulness, I released my first book, ‘Mindfulness For Dummies’ globally. I teach mindfulness full-time, both to the general public, as well as special workshops for counsellors, therapists, health professionals, coaches and corporate organisations. My book has been very well received and the publishers have asked me to write another two books, for which I feel honoured. I love writing, teaching, coaching and mindfulness, so I now combine all my passions to help others to train in mindfulness and thereby reduce stress, anxiety, depression and increase the level of their health and wellbeing. Everyday is a new learning experience from me, and I learn something from the wisdom of each person I teach or coach.

Shamash regularly runs many personal development courses with adults, and have given public lectures on the ‘Science of Mindfulness’ and the ‘Science of Gratitude’. He is always happy to give a talk on stress reduction or the benefits of mindfulness at your workplace/charity/organisation. He is also available to run half or full day mindfulness based stress reduction workshops.

He has attended retreats with the Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santorelli, the Dalai Lama, Matthieu Ricard, and Thich Nhat Hanh, the world’s foremost teachers and practitioners of Mindfulness. Shamash is not a Buddhist himself, and teaches all courses in a secular way. He completed Mindfulness trainings of various lengths all over the world. Shamash attend Mindfulness retreats annually to deepen his own practice.
