How to Cultivate Self-Love Using This Mindful Approach

Many of us practice self-hate rather than self-love.

We recall what we did wrong and are self-critical.

Or we see certain flaws in our body or minds, and hate ourselves for it.

If you recognise this trait in you, then today’s meditation will be just the ticket.

You don’t have to be perfect to love yourself.

The fact is, nobody's perfect.

The skill of self-love is to learn to make peace with our mistakes. It’s what makes us human.

Would you like to be friends with someone who’s absolutely perfect in everything, or someone who makes some mistakes, and does their best to learn from them?

If you were perfect, you’d be like a robot - not a human being.

It’s your imperfections that make you unique, special and lovable.

Here’s a summary of today’s guided meditation for you to try:

  1. Kindly stretch your body and find a really cosy posture

  2. Place your hand on your heart

  3. Go through the various physical parts of your body and reflect on the miracle that you are alive and that many of these aspects of you are working so well.

  4. Reflect and appreciate the miracle of being alive and being conscious

  5. Use phrases like ‘May I appreciate myself’, ‘May I accept myself just as I am’ and ‘May I love myself unconditionally’. Whatever words work best for you.

  6. Spend some time quietly reflecting on this

  7. Send that warm wishes out to the world.
