The Unusual Power of the Yes and No Exercise in Meditation
Our minds are like judgement machines.
We can judge anything and everything.
You can be in the nicest house in the nicest neighbourhood in the nicest country, and find plenty to complain about.
You don’t have to look far to find very wealthy individuals complaining about how they don’t have enough. Or how their 5 star hotel experience was not up to scratch.
And this everlasting inner judgement that we all have, turns on itself.
You judge your body as not being too small, too big, too painful or too ugly. You judge your mind for thinking too much, too negatively or too erratically. And you judge your feelings as being wrong or bad.
You may think all this judging helps…but it doesn’t. Not according to research in mindfulness and ACT.
But you don’t even need to read the research to find this out. You can simply spend a few minutes saying no to your experience and notice what happens. And then spend a few minutes saying yes to your experience, and notice again what the difference is.
