The Life Changing Magic of Thinking Small
/“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” - Mother Teresa
We can’t do great things.
All so called great things are made up of thousands of small moments that add up.
It’s the small interactions we have with each other that makes all the difference.
The small acts of kindness.
The little acts of generosity.
When I was younger, I kept thinking too big. About how I could help spread mindfulness to a thousand people. To a million people. To a billion people. It stressed me out and made me feel frustrated.
What’s the point if we manage such a goal but are too burnt out to even be mindful of what’s happening in front of us?!
Finally I realised it’s about taking small steps to be mindful in my own life and sharing it with those around me.
So now I just do my best to keep improving what I share in small ways, and making meaningful one to one connections with those around me. Much simpler and much more enjoyable too!
Everything is made up of the small.
The universe itself is made up of particles much smaller than even atoms. The small makes up everything.
Buildings are made up of small bricks. Computers are made up of microchips. Life is made up of tiny moments.
So don’t think too big. Focus on the magic of thinking small.
What would your life be like if you had small goals everyday?
If you were satisfied with small achievements?
If you valued the small moments of meaningful connections with friends, family and loved ones?
Wouldn’t it be more satisfying, purposeful and filled with greater love?
I think so.
There’s nothing wrong with having big goals if you want them. But the achievement of those goals will rarely be achieved by big leaps. It’s the small steps that’ll get you there.
And even if you don’t achieve the big goal, you’ll be able to value and enjoy the small steps of the journey there.
Here’s a guided meditation from our Daily Mindfulness Club that focused on just this. I hope you enjoy listening, even if it’s just a small part of it!
